Soaking bait on Lake Macquarie
November 21st 2006 18:19
I decided it was time my tinnie had a clean up. She sits off my wharf on Lake Macquarie just growing weed and oysters on her bum and that slows her down quite a bit. I hauled her out at the local boat ramp, lay her on her side and set to work with a barbecue scraper and scouring pads. After lots of buckets of water thrown about, lots of swims in the lake to cool off I fanally had her hull gleaming. I took her for a spin and hit kneck snapping acceleration. Boy its good to get the horrible jobs on boats out of the way.
It was hot here yesterday. I don't know what the teperature was but more than I needed for comfort. I went to the pub for the first time in ages to cool off with some cold Coopers draft beer and airconditioning. As I was relaxing I realised why I don't come here often. I don't want to leave. I prised myself out of the chair and went home to my tinnie that had just been given a haircut and shave. I loaded 5 Tooheys throwdowns, 3 very dead and almost forgoten peeled Vanamai king prawns and my old $20 rod and went to soak some bait and drink some beer on the cool of the lake.
Second soak and I picked up a 35cm bream. No sinker, light line drifting to the bottom. It was a suicide hit, no skill but it is in the freezer. If you are not out there you catch stuff all. Doh!
I don't eat many of the fish I catch on the lake but save them for my dear old 90 y.o. dad who just loves fish. I don't gut or scale them as this gives him the opportunity to supervise mum in doing it as he claims he is to old and might cut himself. Am I a stirrer or what?
Well we are promised another hot but very windy day again today. My thoughts go to those of you in bushfire areas. good luck to you.
Hopefully I will get another afternoon's fishing in.
